SHERRY GRIGSBY: Founder and President

Sherry is a career educator and officially retired from teaching. She started Eyes on Africa after traveling to South Africa with her husband, Rich, in 2004. Besides travel (mostly to Africa), her interests include cycling and hiking.


Rich is a landscape designer and photographer trained at Art Center College of Design. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast combining photography with rock climbing, mountaineering, canyoneering, and hiking.

JAY SMITH: Secretary

Jay is an attorney practicing law in Los Angeles.  His interests include alternative energy projects, exotic plant propagation, and wine tasting.




Carolyn is a professional photographer living in Oregon. She combines her photography career with outdoor activities that include cross-country skiing, kayaking, and hiking. Her work features wildlife photography, landscapes, wildflowers, and pet portraits.


A graduate of Wellesley College, Jan had a career as a technical writer before starting a family. As treasurer of her son’s high school booster club, she is active in fundraising and student advocacy. An avid cyclist, Jan can be found riding either road or mountain bikes in the local mountains.


Heather recently retired from heading up a unique and successful script transcription business she started 26 years ago.  She enjoys world travel, hiking and baking cookies for her grandson.


Debbie is a career educator, now retired from counseling and teaching computer literacy. She enjoys Mahjong, pickle ball, and beach combing with family.


Sandy is a graduate of Occidental College, and received her Masters in Library Science from USC.  She was head of the research library at China Lake Naval Weapons Center.  She now teaches thesis research and writing at Ridgecrest Comminity College.
